How can ABA be applied to an adult population?

  • 19/04/2021

In Switzerland ABA is mostly implemented in the treatment of young children with autism. However, the possible applications of ABA span much further than this.

ABA Switzerland is pleased to welcome Dr Shane Spiker back to hold another webinar for our members and friends on this topic! Shane presented for us last year on the topic of ABA in the treatment of sexual disorders, broadening our horizons by speaking with us about these other exciting implementations for the field of ABA. We are excited again to learn more about applications of ABA outside the field of early intervention. Join us on Wednesday 28th of April at 8pm. The webinar is now open for registration in our online store.

New look website

  • 17/03/2021

In 2019 we launched ABA Switzerland’s previous website. For several years ABA Switzland existed with only a presence on Facebook. In the time since we have welcomed in excess of 6000 users to our website. During that time the responsibilities and challenges facing our professional group have changed. At the beginning of 2020, the BACB announced that they will no longer be supporting certification outside the USA and Canada. In light of this and the growing numbers of visitors to our online services, we have continued to develop our online presence whilst also reducing cost and bringing development in house.

In line with our strategy, we have redesigned our website to provide more functionality and to allow us to expand services according to our member’s needs and ABA Switzerland’s ever-changing role, whilst also preserving the breadth and depth of our content. The development of this website has taken in excess of 15 months to develop and introduces the following services.

  1. A new members area, a place to find your CEUs, Membership Documents and control your personal information – Launching in April 2021
  2. A streamlined application process for applicants
  3. Partial automation in the administration of the membership application process
  4. A central database of members and friends of ABA Switzerland
  5. Improved functionality on private practitioner profiles
  6. Increased integration between all our online services

All member will receive their personal logins and access to the member’s area in the next two weeks. We hope you enjoy using the new website. If you have any feedback or experience any issues with the new services please do get in contact with us via the contact page.

  • 17/03/2021

ABA Switzerland is please to announce our next webinar with Nicole Pfaller-Sadovsky.

When: Thursday 25th of March 2021 from 8.00pm till 10.00pm

Where: Instructions for accessing the webinar will be sent to all attendees 24 hours before start of the webinar to the registration E-Mail address provided.

CEUs: 2 CEUs will be available for this webinar.

The aim of this webinar is to provide attendees with an overview of ABA-based principles and approaches that can be found in animal training and behaviour change programmes across various species (e.g., dogs, cats, horses but also more exotic animals). The principles presented include functional behaviour assessments, differential reinforcement procedures, chaining, conditioned reinforcement, extinction, and behaviour skills training for animal caregivers. All is discussed in the realm of successful animal training and respective behaviour change, as well as animal welfare and quality of life. The presentation will expand on relevant research and uses video recordings to help better understand the principles across different animal species. Examples from the presenter’s practical know-how will complete the learning experience.

About Nicole: As a long-time dog owner (since 1994), Nicole founded her own dog training business, Happy-Fellow® Coaching & Seminar, in 2008 where she continues to work with clients whose dogs display undesired behaviours, such as fear, inter- and intraspecific aggression, separation-related behaviour, or stereotypic behaviour. Nicole holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Applied Animal Behaviour and an MSc degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis from Queen’s University Belfast. Currently, Nicole works toward the PhD in Biological Sciences with an emphasis on Behaviour Analysis at Queen’s University Belfast, conducting research on canine learning and human-dog interactions from a Behaviour Analytic perspective.

Important Message for Members and Friends of ABA Switzerland

  • 17/03/2021

Since the BACB’s announcement at the end of December 2019 regarding the discontinuation of future certifications of persons living outside the USA and Canada as of 2023, ABA Switzerland has conducted many meetings with its members and with professional advisors. There are many ideas, some more, some less realistic. We are in the process of developing a vision regarding the structure and the future role of ABA in Switzerland.

We have more ideas than resources, that is why we need your help! If you wish to be part of the team moving ABA forwards, please join us! Send an email to admin@abaswitzerland.ch with your ideas and thoughts.
